Art 2 Final Exam

Art Two Final Exam
1. I feel that my most successful project was the Mixed Media project. The theme I chose for this assignment was a mix of nature, jungle and just foreign kind of add-ins. For this project, once we chose the theme, we had to cut out images from magazines and layer them onto a paper. This made a kind of collage looking piece. It took me several times to really get the hang of making these. So many layers had to be put into this to really make it look blended and flow together like a normal picture. I think that was one of my obstacles in this project, the first few looked so choppy and thrown together before I really started to get into my last theme. I think that one of the beneficial choices that I made in this assignment was adding little details to the piece. By this I mean, that there is a lot more to the picture than to see at first glance. There are many little people, artifacts, animals and landscapes that I added into the picture but you definitely have to look closer into to see. This makes the picture more interesting and makes the viewer pay more attention which I think is cool.

2. One of the projects that I felt that I was not as successful with was for sure the clay project. For this project we were given a food category and asked to formulate a food from that category. Our tables category being lunch, I chose to make clay tacos. I felt that this was not the most successful one because I'm really not very familiar with clay and I just cant work with it. We sort of worked with it in Art 1 but definitely not enough. I never learned anything about clay or how to work with it or how to add texture or details to it. I don't really know how I could do differently to change it to be honest. I guess I could have added more detail to the plate or added more ingredients to put into the actual taco. I just felt like I didn't really know what I was doing with this project and I think that's why it was not as successful as the rest of them.

3. Looking at my body of work throughout the semester, I think one aspect of art that I've really improved in would be perspective. The first perspective mini project that I made in Art two was the Lego Perspective drawing. This was one of the first times I've had to work with perspective. Again, this is definitely not my strongest. But working with it throughout the unit, I feel that I've definitely made progress. For the lego project, we had to build a fixture with legos and then draw it with colored pencils adding in value and darks. For the later project we had to construct a perspective, themed city such as candy or food or whatever we wanted. I chose to do a city with buildings built as different, recognizable parts, people or characters from several different Disney movies. My technique definitely improved, as you could tell in the way the overall piece was put together and presented. In the Disney perspective piece, I figured out how to layer the buildings, making each building look further back than the one in front of it enhancing the perspective.

4. Two mini lessons that I found to be the most beneficial in my learning this semester were for sure the Dum Dum lollipop and the Skeleton. These two I feel helped me the most because it was a more realistic drawing. They really made me pay attention and observe the objects that I was drawing which really helped improve my drawing skills. Realistic drawings used to be one of my unsuccessful assignments but after this class, I feel more confident with it. Colored pencils and pencils being the medium for these assignments also helped because its the medium I'm most comfortable with.  I feel that the instruction with these was perfectly fine. I didn't face any obstacles or any challenges with these two projects. I agree with the statement that I felt instructed enough to ensure success.

5. My favorite medium to work with this semester was the acrylic paint. I definitely grew to like it more as the class went on. The paint is just fun to work with, especially after learning all the things you can do with it. In this class I learned about the different ways you can use the acrylic paint to create different textures. These techniques would include dry brushing and mixing colors. My favorite activity we did with the paint was the mini lesson where we had one little part of a painting that we had to imitate. I really liked this project because we had to try to match all the colors of our painting by mixing colors over and over again and had to figure out what color to add to what to make it. I really liked when we put them all together because it was cool to see how your small piece of a painting could come together to make a bigger picture and see how everyone else that had the same one as you interpreted it.
